Summer Eye Safety

This morning Dr. Gina Wesley joined us to talk about protecting your eyes this summer.

Did you know that sunglasses are far more than just a fashion statement? Everyone knows to wear sunscreen to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, and it's just as important to protect our eyes. Prolonged exposure of our eyes to the sun's high energy rays can cause vision loss through the formation of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.

Check to make sure that the sunglasses you wear block 99 to 100 percent of UV-A and UV-B rays, and wear them anytime you're outside for prolonged periods of time, even when the sky is overcast.
